You are good to go in the 7 easy steps below:

Step 1: Download MapRun
Step 2: Download Hibernator Course
Step 3: Safety: Kit list, tell a mate
Step 4: Go To Start – wait for green bar at bottom of app
Step 5: Once finished head to Outside
Step 6: Donate a typical “race entry” of £10 to Edale Mountain rescue
Step 7: Share your tails from the trail

Details: A smidge under 24km with approx 800m of ascent, starting and finishing at Hathersage CofE Primary School. Heading North. Access is sensitive over open access land not on Public Rights of Ways, therefore unfortunately this is a NO DOGS route

Step 1: Download/update MapRun (version 7.3.2) free here. Needs to be latest version to work with QR code. Provides background mapping, certificate your completion and provides results.

Step 2: Download the Hathersage Hibernator route via the QR code or link here. Remember this is a January wild wander!!

Step 3: Take appropriate clothing for the conditions, including spare dry layers, full waterproofs, hat, gloves, food and drink to last your round and a head torch due to the short dark days.

Let people know you’re doing the route and what time you’re expected to finish. Take a map and compass as electronic devices cannot and should not be relied upon. Once you’ve got yourself organised…

Step 4: Use the “Go to start”, wait for bar to go green at bottom of app, then your phone will beep at the start/finish & controls between. Route map here & gpx file.

Step 5: Head down to Outside (centre of the village), share your experiences, have some well earned food and drink. Rab have kindly supported the event, with a Beanie for completion!

Step 6: Donate a typical race entry fee of £10 to Edale Mountain Rescue, especially if you enjoyed the route, as this is the Team that are always there ready to help out, whatever the weather when things go wrong in these here hills. Donation point in Outside or via JustGiving

Step 7: Share your comments, photos and experiences online tagging in Outside and Hathersage Fell Race. We have spot prizes, including free entry to the 2025 race, available for the best postings. Email here or use #HathersageHibernator and the other tags below.
